In Nara, Japan, deer have long been revered as sacred messengers of the gods. Historically, the deer's territory and human living spaces were kept separate; they coexisted through a cycle where the deer would descend from the mountains to interact with people during the day and return to the mountains at night. However, in recent years, this balance has begun to break down.
The deer's habitat has expanded, and they have started forming herds even within residential areas. People now share their living environment with these sacred deer, striving for coexistence by yielding space to them.
